Plan a website launch with DNS, HTTPS and email in mind

Publishing a website involves more than pointing a domain at a new IP address. Before changing DNS, confirm the destination document root, database connection, HTTPS certificate and essential application features.

Test the homepage, login, search, contact forms and any checkout workflow using a safe preview method. For a shop or membership website, agree how new orders and account changes will be synchronized during the final cutover.

Keep a copy of the existing DNS zone. Preserve the MX and authentication records when email will remain with its current provider, and review both A and AAAA records so visitors do not reach different destinations.
