Before putting a new server into production, establish a reliable way to recover access and a clear record of its initial configuration. Keep its assigned address, operating system details and authorized users with your service documentation. Confirm that the selected management arrangement matches the work you expect the provider to perform.
Recommended workflow
- Confirm the operating system, storage layout, hostname, time zone and expected network addresses.
- Check administrator access, then review firewall rules and exposed ports without closing your only recovery route.
- Install the required application components, run a controlled test and record the baseline configuration before accepting live traffic.
Use an individual administrative account and a suitable SSH authentication method. Confirm a second successful session before changing the working access method. Firewall changes should preserve required administration access, and you should know how to reach the provider console or recovery process if a network rule locks you out.
Apply appropriate system updates, check the system clock and configure only services that the application actually needs. Arrange backups outside the server and test the recovery procedure before storing unique production data. Finally, document the application ports and a simple health check. A newly reachable server is only a starting point; successful deployment also requires maintenance ownership, monitoring and an application-specific recovery plan.
