Diagnose high server usage before buying more resources Печать

A short CPU spike does not necessarily mean that a server is undersized. Start by identifying when the problem happens, how long it lasts and which application function slows down. Compare that period with traffic, scheduled jobs, deployments and database activity so that the investigation has a clear time window.

Recommended workflow

  1. Identify the highest-consuming process or application and compare it with recent changes and scheduled tasks.
  2. Review available space, resource limits and relevant application or database logs for errors near the incident time.
  3. Test a targeted correction, then compare response time and resource use before deciding whether additional capacity is needed.

Look at CPU use, memory pressure, swap activity, disk capacity and disk I/O together. A slow database, excessive logging or a backup task can affect response time even when processor usage looks modest. Check whether the service is waiting on an external API or remote storage before assuming that local hardware is responsible.

Keep observations from both a normal period and an affected period. Change one factor at a time and measure again. If growth consistently consumes available resources after application issues have been addressed, an upgrade may be appropriate. Support can assess useful evidence such as timestamps, affected URLs, workload patterns and sanitized monitoring output; a screenshot of one high percentage rarely explains the underlying cause.
